Graduation Internship: Vehicle Placement and Demand-Driven Depot Routing

  • On-site
    • Veghel, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands
  • Product & Tech

Job description

BAS Group is an international family-owned company headquartered in Veghel, the Netherlands. The group operates multiple companies within the commercial vehicle industry and supports customers worldwide with services related to trade, parts, logistics, and digital platforms.

A large part of BAS’ business depends on presenting vehicles online in an effective way and supporting commercial and logistical decisions with the right data. During this internship, you will work on a challenge at the intersection of digital product development, customer behavior, and operational decision-making.

New vehicles enter the BAS process every day. Before these vehicles are physically transported to a depot, there is an opportunity to already make them visible online and use customer interest signals to support better decisions on where these vehicles should eventually be routed.

Assignment Description

Currently, once a vehicle is contracted, there is a period before it is picked up and transported to a depot. BAS would like to investigate whether this window can be used more effectively by investigating to what depot the vehicle should be transferred.

The idea is to measure which location attracts the most customer interest and use this insight to make a more informed routing decision. Possible demand indicators may include page views, click behaviour, favourites, lead generation, or other measurable signals of commercial interest.

The goal of this internship / graduation project is to research and design a data-driven approach that helps BAS estimate demand for incoming vehicles and improve depot allocation decisions before physical arrival.

Central research question:

How can BAS use early online customer interest in vehicles to determine the best depot destination to save transportation costs?

The project can focus, in collaboration with the student, on topics such as:

  • Analysis of the current vehicle intake, publication, and depot routing process

  • Identification of measurable demand signals and customer intent indicators

  • Design of a POC, including possible favourite or tracking functionality

  • Development of a prototype or POC

  • Validation of whether customer interest can support better routing decisions

Deliverables

  • An analysis of the current process and decision points around vehicle routing

  • A framework for measuring demand for incoming vehicles before depot allocation

  • A prototype, dashboard, or decision-support model

  • Validation results based on historical data, experiments, or simulated scenarios

  • Documentation and a final presentation of the results

Job requirements

We are looking for a student who:

  • Is currently enrolled in an HBO or WO program such as Computer Science and Software Engineering

  • Has an interest in digital products, customer behaviour, experimentation, and data-driven decision-making

  • Enjoys working on problems that combine business logic, data, and product thinking

  • Works independently while actively engaging with stakeholders

  • Has good communication skills in English
