Job description

During this internship, you will become part of the BAS Parts & Tyres team, where business, engineering, and data specialists work closely together to improve commercial processes and develop data-driven solutions. The team continuously looks for ways to better leverage available data to gain insights into customer behavior, identify new sales opportunities, and support smarter decision-making.

Through its operations, BAS Parts & Tyres generates significant amounts of data related to customer orders, vehicle types, markets, inventory levels, and pricing. This creates opportunities to further optimize commercial strategies and develop more proactive, data-driven approaches to customer engagement.

As an intern, you will work in a professional and collaborative environment where you can contribute to real business challenges while developing your analytical and technical skills.

Assignment Description

Within BAS Parts & Tyres we have access to a wide range of data sources, including:

  • Historical customer orders

  • Seasonal demand patterns

  • Geographic markets and countries

  • Inventory and pricing information

  • Market developments (where available)

Currently, customer outreach is largely reactive or generic, for example through incoming requests or general marketing campaigns. As a result, potential sales opportunities may not always be identified at the right moment.

The goal of this graduation project is to explore how data can be used to proactively identify sales opportunities and customer purchase intent.

Central research question:

How can available data be used to predict which customers are likely to purchase specific types of parts, and when the optimal moment is to approach them commercially?

The project can focus (specific focus will be set in collaboration with student) on developing a data-driven model or analytical framework or tool that can:

  • Predict potential purchasing opportunities per customer

  • Identify relevant parts or product categories to recommend

  • Determine the most promising moment for customer outreach

  • Provide insight into why a certain opportunity is predicted

The project will involve data exploration, feature engineering, modeling, and validation. The focus lies on analysis and experimentation, rather than full production implementation.

Deliverables

At the end of the internship, the student can for instance deliver (specific focus will be set in collaboration with student):

  • An analysis of available data sources and their suitability for predicting sales opportunities

  • A research report describing the methodology, analysis, and findings

  • A data-driven model or prototype that predicts customer sales opportunities

  • Insights into relevant factors that influence predicted purchase behavior

  • Validation of the approach using historical data or simulated scenarios

  • Documentation and a final presentation of the results

Job requirements

We are looking for a student who:

  • Is currently enrolled in an HBO or WO program such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Business IT & Management

  • Has an interest in data analysis, machine learning, or predictive modeling

  • Enjoys translating business problems into analytical or technical solutions

  • Works independently while actively engaging with stakeholders

  • Has good communication skills in English
